Purbachal New Town – The Future Capital of Dhaka

Purbachal New Town Project is the biggest ever project of the authority, RAJUK. The project area is about 6227 acres which is equivalent to 25 square kilometers. It will have an eight-lane expressway linked with Pragati Swarani / Airport Road. Around 26000 residential properties with 62,000 apartments are planned to be constructed. Besides, the total area of this project is divided into 30 sectors.

Background of Purbachal Mega Project

Purbachal Project is located at Rupganj Upazila of Narayangonj district and the rest of it is in Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur district, with the river Balu to the west and the river Sitalakhya to the east. It is 16 KM away from the zero point of Dhaka. The total area is 6227 acres.

One of the attractions of Purbachal New Town will be the Bangabandhu Tri Tower project. The 111 storied supertall skyscrapers Iconic Tower is called Legacy Tower. It is a part of Bangabandhu tri-tower: alongside 71-floors Liberation Tower and 52-floors Language Tower.

Japanese construction giant Kajima Corporation, along with their Bangladeshi partner Sikder Group has announced plans to complete the construction by 2025. Its location is Purbachal, Sector 19.

Purbachal Smart City Latest News / Current Condition of the Projects

Site development works of sectors 1-5, 11 to 14, and 17 have nearly been completed. Estimate for site development at Gazipur part has been completed and tendering for execution is under process.
Road construction works in sectors 1 to 5, 11, 13, 14 & 17 have nearly been completed. For other sectors the road construction works are ongoing.
300 ft wide road is one of the attractions of the Purbachal New Town Project. Construction of all the bridges and other structures like underpasses, switch gates, etc. which are connected to the 300ft road will be completed soon.
Construction work of 7 bridges is ongoing in 1st phase. And at 2nd phase construction work of 4 bridges are ongoing. Work progress is 70%. The rest of the bridges are in the process of tendering.
Construction of 100-feet canals on both sides of the road was also going on simultaneously.
By means of connection authority, necessary steps are taken to establish utility services viz electricity, gas, water supply, sewerage, and telecommunication, etc. Electric poles are already installed at sector 1, 3, 4, 5, 11, 13, 14, 17, 23, 30. Installation of electric Sub-Station has been completed in sector # 4.
The handing over of plots in sectors 4, 5, and 17 was started in March 2011. Handing over plots in sectors 3, 11, 12,13, and 14 is expected to start quickly. It will take more years to hand over all the plots.According to daily star news, Ujjwal Mallick, project director and chief engineer of Rajuk, said the project has so far seen 70 percent physical progress and 65 percent financial progress. The project can be completed by 2025.
